20080116T1744Don't miss out on my major contribution for the year so far to requirements theory. The authentic original is burried in a comment on Tom's blog onRequirements Completenes...

While researching the application of economic theory to systems engineering, I have become aware of the concept of Real Options. I'll put some links to interesting websites on that page.

I am fascinated by Stakeholders and their Requirements. As a practising requirements and systems analyst, I seem to have no difficulty recognising either. But from a theoretical standpoint, I find both concepts ill defined. My fundamental belief is that an elementary Requirement must be a single person's singular view. By definition, this renders both consensus and compromise Requirements complex. Or, if you prefer, the process of achieving a consensus or compromise is part of solving the problem rather than clarifying or refining the Requirement. If sufficient interest in this topic becomes apparent, I have a number of thoughts that I might be encouraged to develop further.
